We want to thank you for your continued prayers and support. We have had some exciting things happening in 2015. The Lord allowed us to completely refinish the church basement/fellowship hall. Someone donated their time in painting almost the entire basement and two extra rooms on the second floor. We were also able to have carpeting throughout the fellowship hall and vinyl in the kitchen installed (you can kind of see before & after pictures below).
This Friday we are putting on a Good Friday Service and Concert. We have done about 1,300 door hangers and will do another 1,200 tomorrow and Thursday. We have 2 large banners in front of the church, have been handing out invitations in town and also have invitations on counters in different businesses around town. On top of all these efforts we are also promoting the service through YouTube using a video invitation. We are praying that the Lord will use this service to bring out many people who would not come to church otherwise… We greatly appreciate your prayers for the Gospel to go forth with power and that The Lord would draw sinners to salvation.
We are blessed… Liz’s pregnancy has been going very well and our little girl is looking very healthy. Today was Russell’s 2nd birthday and it was a great blessing to be able to bring him to the zoo as we have had a very busy month. We have had two wonderful Kid’s Clubs the past two months. Also, Kevin’s ministry in the city on Thursdays has been a huge blessing. He has been able to minister again to people who we used to be with two years ago. We have been having some great attendances recently as well.
Once again we greatly appreciate your prayers and hope you enjoy the pictures below.
Liz and I are excited to start sharing our music with you via YouTube. We have been planning on doing this for a long time and have officially started this week. We have two songs up currently and will be attempting to post a song next week which Liz wrote, “Wait and Be Still”. If you are interested click on “Our Music” page.
Please share our songs with others and subscribe to us on YouTube so you can be alerted when we post new songs.
Just over three years ago, when I first started preaching in Manhattan, I was starting to understand that some people just sleep when preaching happens but James Rodriguez would consistently be the first to sleep and usually slept even before I started preaching. On multiple occassions James would answer his phone while I was preaching and once he even told me to just “hold on a minute” when I asked him to step out or stop the phone conversation. James grew up in the Lower East Side which at the time was an incredibly rough area. By God’s grace, as we worked through Ephesians, God turned James’ heart to Christ. Since then he has become one of the most faithful volunteers and oversees the church’s distribution of food in the very neighborhood where he grew up. He now faithfully shares the Gospel and shows the love of Christ to the lost people of NYC. It has truly been a privilege to see the Lord graciously change James’ heart. Every Thursday I have the wonderful opportunity to bring the left over pantry food to James and his crew and see his testimony among the people. Below is a recent write up about what goes on there… It does not talk about the Gospel much but gives a neat picture of how the Lord is at work.
LES Food Distribution Kevin and James
These past few months have definitely been a new chapter for us. We have been really enjoying settling in here in Port Washington and serving at our new church. We have been so blessed to have a house to live in! Shortly after moving here, as most of you already know, we found out that Liz is pregnant and due next June. We also were able to adopt a puppy from a shelter. Russell has been having a blast with her. The people of the church have been wonderful to get to know and the Brackbills have quickly become great friends.
Got has been blessing the ministry here. We have been having quite a few visitors the past few months. There has been a couple coming with their two daughters and their parents as well. We are praying that they will consider church membership soon. I have been seeking to get to know teens in order to eventually start a youth group. I have gotten to play soccer quite a few times with some guys from the high school soccer team and the assistant coach. I am praying that this will open up some doors for the Gospel. . I am really enjoying preaching once a week, taking care of the building and property, and leading worship.
Every Thursday I have had the opportunity to go into the city and work at the church that we used to work at two years ago. I help with the pantry services, food pickups and have occasionally preached when needed to fill in. This has been an absolutely wonderful time getting to see folks who we were able to see God save a while ago and now to see their growth.
Please keep us in your prayers. Liz is just getting over her morning sickness as she comes into her second trimester. Please also pray: That The Lord will bring more to know Christ and more church members to the congregation. For teens to be saved and discipled. For the Lord to provide for some major church projects coming up this year. For the Lord to provide for us as we are not at 100% support.
Thanks for reading everyone!
Throughout the past year we have been exploring different ministry possibilities. We had three major options come about but ultimately the Lord closed those doors. We did not know why God kept closing these doors but we were learning patience and to trust him. I (Kevin) had the privilege to go on a mission trip to The Bible Church of Port Washington in Long Island with some teens from our church. While we were there we learned that the church was looking for a new pastoral assistant. The Lord led me and the pastor to talk with one another and he asked me to come back the next week with Liz and Russell. We have now attended three Sundays at the church and this past Sunday the church voted to take me on as the pastoral assistant. We will be moving to Port Washington Long Island in just over a month. Our ministries will include music, evangelism, discipleship, preaching, and youth ministry. The church is located on the driveway to the high school and middle school so we are very excited about the possibilities of a youth group. The Lord has also worked out the details for me to be able to go into the city once a week and work at our old church. While I am at our previous ministry on Thursdays I will be helping with the food pantry services and also reaching out to the teens in the government housing next door to the church.
Our new church has a house for us to live in, will cover our utilities and pay some extra on top of this! Lord willing, our groceries will mostly be covered through me working at the food pantry in Manhattan. It’s obvious to us that God has been at work preparing the way for us. We are still receiving some support from when we used to be in NY so that will help as well! Our goal is for Liz to get another baby sitting job so I can work full time in the ministry. If you are burdened in helping the revitalization of a church and for inner-city teens please consider contributing through our link.
The Lord has burdened Liz and I specifically to reach the different nations that have gathered here in the cities of the US. We explored and pursued a few means to this end… Camp ministry to inner-city teens and then local church ministry in Albany with the inner-city close by. The Lord answered prayer though, by opening and closing doors and led us here. It is a slightly different ministry than we had been envisioning but God had it planned all along. We are thrilled to be able to work with a small church and at the same time work with teens. Port Washington Long Island is very diverse and we are looking forward to seeing God work!
We are praising God especially for His clear direction. Specific prayer requests that He has answered-
- A ministry that is in/close to a big city.
- A ministry that would be very church focused.
- A ministry that would have a couple we could minister with. (Pastor John Brackbill has a wonderful wife who has quickly clicked with Liz and they have five young children who play well with Russell)
- A ministry that we can settle down in and be a part of long-term.
- A ministry where we could work with inner-city teens.
Thanks for reading and for your prayers!
Please read our story – we hope it is an encouragement to you.
February and the beginning of March, despite the cold, have been wonderful for us. God has provided a babysitting job for Liz and provided a decent amount of paying work for me through Jan and Feb (we have been able to use almost 100% of our support coming, in strictly for The Oasis). Russell is coming up on his first birthday this month! He is such a joy to us!
We are thoroughly enjoying our time here at Trinity. I (Kevin) have been absolutely loving teaching the 11th & 12th grade Bible class. The young men and women have been a great blessing to me. Liz and I have been teaching the 3 year olds together once a month and that has been a blast! We have also been leading a Life Group on Evangelism and the Gospel. There are 7 people in our group and the fellowship and discussions have been wonderfully refreshing! Please be in prayer as we seek to continue to get involved in more ways here and also start travelling to more churches to share about the Oasis.
God has brought some possible opportunities into our path concerning the Oasis and we covet your prayers as we seek God’s guidance. Please be in prayer that He would open and close doors for us as we seek to pursue opportunities to minister to the inner-cities of the mid-west. We are so excited to see what the Lord is planning for the Oasis!
We would like to ask something from all of you… We are definitely in need of raising more support for the start of this ministry. We are hoping for our current prayer supporters to partner with us in one additional way other than prayer. Would you all be willing to share the ministry with some churches you have contacts in? Getting support from churches is our main goal and we would love to set up some meetings in churches to share the burden. Also, can you share this ministry with your friends? My goal is to have people support inner-city teens with the opportunity to go to camp by giving a dollar a day ($30 a month). If all of you were able to find 1-2 people to join in carrying the burden of God’s work in the inner-city churches we could really make some leaps and bounds forward in making the Oasis a reality by summer of 2015 or 2016. Please share with others about the Oasis! Below are some links that you can send to your friends and family!
